Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis for healing and creative change. Hypnosis is a state of relaxation in which the subconscious mind is highly receptive to the suggestions that are made to it. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis in that the therapist serves only as a guide, helping you to access the natural healing power of your subconscious mind. Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind that we experience on a daily basis, just before falling asleep, upon awakening, or anytime we find ourselves in a meditative state, responding more to our internal world than to the external world around us. Have you ever found yourself so caught up in a movie, book, or daydream that you lost track of time or awareness of the environment around you? This is a naturally occurring state of hypnosis in which your subconscious mind, the seat of imagination, visualization, and creativity, is predominant. Through hypnotherapy, you can tap into the creative power of your subconscious to produce amazing changes within your life!
Since hypnosis is a naturally occurring state, anyone with the desire and motivation to experience hypnosis can do so. All that is required is an openness to your experience and trust in the power and wisdom of your own subconscious mind. You can always choose to end the hypnotic experience, and you will never do or believe anything as a result of hypnosis that is not consistent with your inner value system. Many people wonder if it is possible to become "stuck" within the hypnotic state. This is not possible, as your consciousness will always transition from hypnosis to either wakefulness or sleep from which you will awaken naturally. While hypnosis lies on the continuum between sleep and wakefulness, some people will report feeling as if they have been in a sleep state while others report feeling full awareness. Either response is normal, and the effectiveness of hypnotherapy does not depend on the "depth" of the hypnotic state. Indeed, many people report leaving a hypnotherapy session feeling that "nothing happened" only to then experience profound changes in their lives! Like any other skill, regular practice will enhance the effectiveness of self-hypnosis. Further information and instructions on the use of self-hypnosis are provided as a free track on each of our CDs.
